Timpson, a popular shoe repair chain, has introduced a new service for trading in mobile phones. Teaming up with gadget resell company musicMagpie and AO, Timpson now offers customers the option to bring their unwanted smartphones to any of their stores and receive instant cash. Recent research indicates that 73% of adults in the UK own unused smartphones, with an average trade-in value of approximately £250, totaling around £10 billion in unused devices.
While numerous online options exist for selling old phones, Timpson aims to cater to individuals who prefer face-to-face transactions, despite other similar high street alternatives being available. A survey revealed that 68% of people prefer in-person trade-ins, with one in four emphasizing the importance of immediate payment.
Following a successful trial period, Timpson and musicMagpie have expanded the trade-in service to over 1,300 Timpson locations across the UK. John Roberts, the CEO of AO World, expressed that the collaboration makes it easy for customers to trade in their old tech quickly, highlighting the value of this partnership.
Steve Oliver, the managing director of musicMagpie, views the integration of Magpie into Timpson’s vast network as a significant milestone, enhancing convenience for customers. Timpson’s group director, Sid Hubbard, emphasized the company’s commitment to providing a trusted and friendly service, extending their long-standing tradition of repairing goods to now include smartphone trade-ins in partnership with musicMagpie.
