Great Blasket Island, an idyllic uninhabited island off the coast of Dunquin near Dingle in Ireland, is in search of two adventurous individuals to manage a coffee shop and guest lodgings during the spring and summer seasons. The appointed caretakers will oversee three holiday cottages, attend to visitors, and handle day-to-day operations, including serving tea and coffee.
The role on the wildlife sanctuary island, devoid of permanent residents, is described as demanding, with the need for hardworking, reliable, and personable candidates who are prepared for the busy and intense nature of the position. The season runs from April to October, with arrival expected in late March, subject to weather conditions affecting sailings and time off.
While the job entails long hours and a busy schedule, caretakers will receive wages, food, and accommodation on the island. They will stay above the café and have access to kitchen facilities, with the opportunity to engage in DIY or maintenance tasks during inclement weather or downtime. The island, designated as a ‘Special Area of Conservation’, spans four miles and offers a rich wildlife experience, including sightings of dolphins, basking sharks, seals, and various bird species.
Interested candidates can apply for the position through the Great Blasket Island website.
