Minneapolis experienced another night of turmoil following an incident where an ICE agent shot an individual shortly after the tragic killing of Renee Good. The federal officer reportedly shot a man in the leg during a car chase to apprehend an individual described as an “illegal alien from Venezuela” by Homeland Security. According to the US Government, the man being pursued crashed into a vehicle and allegedly attempted to flee on foot.
Two individuals from a nearby apartment came to assist the man, and the DHS claimed that their officer was confronted and attacked by these individuals before resorting to using his firearm and injuring one of them in the leg. The City of Minneapolis confirmed that the injured man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The ICE agent also received medical treatment for his injuries, as stated by the DHS.
Minneapolis Police chief Brian O’Hara mentioned that the FBI was looking into the shooting incident, while Mayor Jacob Frey criticized the controversial actions of the immigration office, accusing them of causing disorder in Minnesota. Outraged residents gathered to demonstrate against ICE and its actions in the city and state.
