Celebrity Traitors actor Joe Marler has shared that he and his partner, Daisy, were emotionally impacted by the passing of Daisy’s grandmother while filming the well-known series. The 35-year-old explained how this sad event influenced his initial decision to quit the show, only to be persuaded by his wife to remain. He revealed that this tragedy served as a turning point, sparking his famously confrontational and controversial behavior during the program’s round-table discussions.
“Daisy’s grandmother passed away during filming,” Marler disclosed to The Times. “The producers were aware of her terminal illness, so I informed them that I was leaving.”
Initially set on departing, Marler had a change of heart when Daisy encouraged him to stay until his elimination. This moment prompted him to overcome his doubts, intensify his approach, and view potential elimination as a victory.
Despite facing challenges in the competition, Marler managed to survive three weeks and reach the final rounds without any Traitors being ousted. With a sharp eye for detail, he correctly identified fellow Traitors, distinguishing himself on the show.
However, Marler’s prize money revelation shed light on unequal payments among participants, contrary to initial speculations of a uniform £40,000 fee. While the podcast The Rest Is Entertainment had suggested equal pay for all contestants, Marler clarified receiving a lower amount. Despite this, he expressed contentment with the experience, emphasizing that the payment remained consistent regardless of the duration of participation.
Reflecting on his elimination from Claudia Winkleman’s murder mystery game show, Marler expressed admiration for fellow contestant Nick Mohammed, despite the unexpected turn of events. His positive outlook and appreciation for the competition’s winner, Alan Carr, showcased Marler’s gracious attitude towards the outcome.
