A prominent online beauty retailer is reportedly considering a sale as advisors have been enlisted to conduct a business evaluation. Beauty Bay, established in 1999 by brothers Arron and David Gabbie in Manchester, features over 200 brands on its platform, including popular names like Ariana Grande, Clinique, and MAC, alongside its in-house product line.
According to a recent report by Sky News, Beauty Bay is exploring various funding options, potentially including a complete sale of the company, with Interpath, an advisory firm, collaborating with Beauty Bay on this initiative. Currently employing a workforce of 65 individuals, Beauty Bay has been approached by the Mirror for comments.
This development follows the recent news of beauty brand Malin + Goetz entering administration, resulting in the closure of its seven UK stores and affecting over 70 jobs. While online orders have been temporarily halted on the Malin + Goetz website, customers can still purchase their products through third-party retailers like Liberty, John Lewis, and Space NK.
As stated by a spokesperson for Malin + Goetz to TheIndustry.beauty, the decision to place their UK business into administration was made after an extensive review of the company, leading to the closure of all UK stores and the head office. The spokesperson expressed regret over the job losses but emphasized the necessity of this action given the circumstances.
Malin + Goetz, initially launched in New York in 2004 by Matthew Malin and Andrew Goetz, began with a small product range catering to all skin types and later expanded into fragrance, body care, and other beauty segments. The company’s website is expected to resume operations after a brief maintenance period, although the exact duration remains uncertain.
