EDF is introducing a promotion where customers can receive complimentary electricity on Sundays by reducing their electricity usage during peak weekday hours. The initiative, called the Sunday Saver challenge, will run throughout February. Participants must shift their electricity consumption away from the peak hours of 4pm to 7pm on weekdays to qualify for the free electricity.
Customers who successfully participate will earn between four and 16 hours of free electricity on the following Sunday. EDF customers with smart meters have until February 1 to sign up for the challenge. The energy company states that over 260,000 households have already benefited from more than 17 million free hours of electricity through the Sunday Saver program, with a total of £5.2 million in bill credits distributed.
During Christmas, over 100,000 customers enjoyed eight hours of free electricity each, totaling 910,536 free hours provided by EDF to households. One customer, Natasha Shields from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, has accumulated over 680 free hours on Sundays through the initiative, helping her manage increasing living expenses.
Jon Perks, EDF’s Sales & Marketing Director, emphasized the importance of the Sunday Saver challenge in helping customers reduce costs during the peak winter billing period. The program allows households to monitor their energy usage through the Energy Hub platform, enabling them to identify opportunities to save electricity and reduce their carbon footprint.
Additionally, EDF is rewarding new and existing customers who sign up for any of its electric vehicle tariffs with £50 credit. These tariffs offer five hours of discounted electricity every night from 12am to 5am for both home and electric vehicle charging. Customers can track their Sunday Saver progress and energy usage through the Energy Hub via MyAccount.
