“Canada Searches for Eurovision Star to Make Debut”

Date:

Canada is gearing up for its first appearance at the Eurovision Song Contest, with the opportunity to leave a lasting impression on the global stage. As the selection process unfolds, the chosen artist will play a pivotal role in shaping Canada’s debut performance at the renowned competition.

The search for Canada’s Eurovision representative is in full swing, with aspiring performers now able to submit their applications through the CBC/Radio-Canada portal. While the window is open to all interested individuals, the competition is fierce, as the broadcaster is seeking seasoned artists with a proven track record in the music industry.

Among the early contenders are Rêve, a Montreal native and 2023 Juno Award winner, Talk, who captured attention at the 2024 Canada Day concert and won a Juno for breakthrough artist of the year, and bbno$, a two-time Fan Choice Juno recipient in 2025 and 2026.

Prospective Eurovision participants must meet certain criteria, including being a Canadian citizen or permanent resident aged 18 or older by May 1, 2027, capable of international travel, and able to pass standard background checks. Additionally, applicants will be required to submit videos showcasing their live performance skills and articulating their passion for Eurovision.

The selection process is well underway, with the CBC/Radio-Canada team working diligently to create a shortlist of finalists by the deadline of September 9. As Jennifer Dettman, the head of delegation for Eurovision Song Contest Canada, emphasized, the inaugural year is focused on established artists with a strong digital presence and fanbase in Europe.

Following the shortlisting phase, Canadians will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite artist online, with the final selection being made through a combination of public and jury votes. The chosen artist will then embark on a whirlwind journey of songwriting, music video production, and performance preparation leading up to the Eurovision Grand Final in May.

While the specifics of the song and performance are still taking shape, the selected artist will be at the forefront of Canada’s Eurovision journey, with the potential for unparalleled exposure on a global scale. The road to Eurovision is paved with opportunities for artists to showcase their talents and captivate audiences worldwide.
