A deadly Russian missile strike claimed the lives of 10 individuals in a village located in Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region, as reported by Ukrainian officials. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack on Pechenihy, Kharkiv region, emphasizing the devastation caused to the area, which includes a post office and stores surrounded by residential buildings. Zelenskyy vowed a response to the assault, while Governor Oleh Syniehubov confirmed that 17 people were also wounded in the incident.
The assault resulted in the destruction of 10 private buildings, a café, a post office, a store, and seven cars in the village, according to Syniehubov. The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine indicated that Russia utilized two small Banderol cruise missiles in the attack, as per preliminary reports. Local sources mentioned that the strikes targeted the central part of the village where key establishments like the café, post office, and shops are situated.
In a retaliatory move, Ukraine launched a large-scale drone offensive targeting Moscow and its surrounding areas, deploying 620 drones in the early hours of Tuesday. Mayor Sergei Sobyanin of Moscow confirmed that Russian forces intercepted 180 drones over the region, leading to operational challenges for emergency services. The drones inflicted damage on a warehouse belonging to Russian e-commerce company Wildberries and other facilities near Moscow, resulting in injuries, including a 10-year-old girl.
Kyiv’s drone attacks were not limited to Moscow, as several Russian-controlled regions, including Crimea, experienced heavy bombardment from Ukrainian forces. Power disruptions were reported in southern districts of Crimea due to the attacks, with Krymenergo, the largest power supplier in the region, confirming service outages in various settlements. Russia issued a warning to Britain regarding the supply of drones to Ukraine for attacks on Russian territories, hinting at potential consequences for such actions.
The Russian embassy in London responded to reports of British-made drones being utilized in long-range strikes against Russia, cautioning that London’s involvement in the conflict could lead to repercussions. Meanwhile, the British Defence Ministry reiterated its support for Ukraine by providing necessary equipment for defense purposes, with plans to deliver 150,000 drones to Ukraine by the end of 2026 as part of a significant funding package.
