The cost of a TV licence is increasing once more, but individuals who no longer require one may be eligible for a refund. The annual fee for a TV licence is currently £174.50, set to rise to £180 in April. A TV licence is necessary to watch or record live TV or view any content on BBC iPlayer.
If you solely watch catch-up shows on streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, ITVX, Disney Plus, YouTube, All 4, or My5, excluding BBC iPlayer, a TV licence is not required. However, if you stream live content from these services, a TV licence is necessary. Violating this requirement could lead to a fine of up to £1,000.
In case you no longer need your TV licence before its expiration, you may qualify for a refund if there is at least one month remaining on it. Additionally, individuals eligible for concessions such as over 75 or blindness may also be entitled to a refund.
