Donald Trump has issued a concerning warning regarding a forthcoming “day of retribution” in Minnesota. Despite widespread disapproval of ICE’s tactics in the state, the US President has reaffirmed his decision to increase the presence of agents targeting Somali Americans, the majority of whom are US citizens.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump raised questions about the safety of Minnesota residents, citing the presence of convicted criminals, drug dealers, rapists, and other dangerous individuals in the community. He defended ICE’s actions, emphasizing their goal of removing such individuals from neighborhoods and sending them back to their places of origin.
Contrary to Trump’s claims, ICE has been focusing its efforts on the Somali American population in Minnesota, with a significant percentage being US citizens. The majority of individuals of Somali descent in the state are either naturalized citizens or were born in the US. While there are non-citizens within this group, most have legal status through visas or green cards, and only a small fraction are estimated to be undocumented migrants.
Despite reports of approximately 3,000 ICE agents deployed to Minnesota by the Trump administration, the number of individuals targeted for deportation far exceeds the actual count of potentially deportable individuals. Trump cited examples of reduced crime rates in areas where ICE operations were conducted, attributing improvements to the removal of criminals.
In a final warning, Trump assured the people of Minnesota that a day of reckoning and retribution is on the horizon, implying a tough stance on law enforcement in the state.
