“Police Form Human Chain to Rescue Woman Trapped Upside Down in Sea”

Date:

A 66-year-old woman found herself trapped upside down in perilous sea conditions near Aberavon Beach on Swansea Bay in Port Talbot, Wales. Police officers from South Wales Police formed a human chain to rescue her as she was pinned between wave breakers and a pier due to worsening weather conditions. Despite initial difficulties reaching her, the officers, including Sandfields PC Molly Cana, SPC Colin Davies, SPC David Bird, PC Robert Morgan, PC Daniel Davies, and Sergeant Paul Bamsey, devised a plan to free her by creating a human chain.

Assisted by her son-in-law Jamie, a rope was secured around the woman’s ankle, and with coordinated efforts, she was successfully extracted from the water. Video footage captured the officers working efficiently to release her from the precarious situation. Following the rescue, the woman received immediate first aid for injuries to her leg, face, arms, and body, including a calf injury, ten fractured ribs, and a punctured spleen. She was swiftly transported by the coast guard for further medical attention.

The heroic actions of the six officers involved in the rescue have earned them a nomination for a prestigious bravery award. Inspector Will John praised their courageous efforts, emphasizing that the woman’s life was saved due to their quick thinking and selfless actions. The inspector acknowledged the challenging and dangerous conditions faced by the officers during the rescue operation, highlighting their prioritization of the woman’s safety above all else.
