I am concerned that a blanket ban on social media for those under 16 may expose young individuals to harmful content once they gain access to it.
What is truly needed is for the government to hold major tech companies accountable and enforce a ban on addictive business practices that lead teenagers into consuming harmful content, thus making social media platforms safer.
Enforcing a ban alone risks penalizing children for our collective failure to regulate social media platforms adequately over the past two decades.
