Beauty Bay, an online retailer specializing in cosmetics, is facing potential collapse following the submission of a notice of intention to appoint administrators. This step indicates the company’s readiness to enter administration, triggering a temporary freeze on legal actions by creditors for a period of ten days.
According to a report by Sky News, the notice was lodged earlier this week. Concurrently, Beauty Bay has temporarily taken down its website, displaying a message stating, “We’ll Be Back Soon. BEAUTY BAY is offline right now, we’ll be back shortly.”
Established in 1999 by siblings Arron and David Gabbie and headquartered in Manchester, Beauty Bay offers a wide range of products from over 200 brands, including Ariana Grande, Clinique, MAC, and its proprietary line.
Recent developments follow reports that Beauty Bay was exploring avenues to secure new funding, potentially through a complete sale of the business. Interpath, an advisory firm, was reportedly assisting Beauty Bay in conducting a business review. The company currently employs 65 individuals, and inquiries have been made to Beauty Bay by the Mirror for comments.
In related news, Quiz, a fashion retailer, has entered administration, resulting in the loss of 109 jobs. The redundancies primarily affect the company’s head office in Glasgow and warehouse in Lanarkshire. Quiz’s website has been deactivated, with customers informed that undelivered online orders will be canceled.
Quiz is advising customers to seek refunds through their banks or credit card providers. Consumers who made purchases exceeding £100 on a credit card may be eligible for refunds under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act. For transactions below £100 on a credit card or those made using a debit card, customers may consider utilizing Chargeback within 120 days of purchase.
The retailer is also offering the option for customers to exchange unwanted items in-store for products of equivalent value. While Quiz stores remain open with clearance sales ongoing, gift cards are no longer being accepted. The company operates 40 stores across the UK and has concessions within New Look and Matalan stores, with the latter not affected by the administration proceedings.
