Sources within the party revealed that Jenrick had left behind a draft resignation speech, hinting at his imminent departure. Nigel Farage, who has been engaged in a public feud with Jenrick, confirmed discussions about the potential move to the controversial Tory rival, Reform.
Although Jenrick, who previously aspired to lead the Conservative Party in 2024, had denied any plans to defect just a month ago, a surprising development occurred when Badenoch announced his dismissal from the Shadow Cabinet. She stated, “I have sacked Robert Jenrick from the Shadow Cabinet, removed the whip, and suspended his party membership immediately after uncovering clear and compelling evidence of his clandestine defection plot, intended to inflict maximum damage on his fellow Conservative Party members.”
Following the news, Farage acknowledged speaking with Jenrick but clarified that no official agreement had been reached. He mentioned plans to contact Jenrick and possibly treat him to a drink.
