“Nintendo Tantrum Turns Deadly”

Date:

An 11-year-old boy uttered three alarming words after reportedly shooting his father to death for confiscating his Nintendo gaming console.

Douglas Dietz, aged 42, was discovered deceased with a gunshot wound to the head following the tragic event in a serene area in Duncannon Borough, Pennsylvania, on a Tuesday morning. His son, Clayton, now faces charges of homicide.

Legal documents revealed that Mr. Dietz’s wife awoke to a loud sound and a smell resembling fireworks in the bedroom, before the boy burst in and exclaimed: “Daddy’s dead.”

Upon the arrival of state troopers at the scene, Clayton was heard telling his mother, “I killed Daddy.”

Celebrating his 11th birthday, Clayton allegedly became furious after his father took away his Nintendo Switch a few days prior. According to court records, Jillian, Mr. Dietz’s wife, was beside him in bed and only realized the situation upon switching on the lights and seeing his blood on the sheets.

Entering the room, Clayton started yelling while Jillian attempted to administer CPR to Douglas as they awaited emergency responders. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

During an interview with the police, Jillian mentioned that the couple, who adopted Clayton in 2018, sang Happy Birthday to him the previous evening, but the situation escalated when they informed him it was time for bed.

As per the affidavit, the father supposedly kept the household gun in a locked drawer, but Clayton confessed to finding the key, unlocking it, and searching for his Nintendo Switch.

Clayton then admitted to retrieving the gun from the safe, loading it with bullets, walking over to his father’s side of the bed, pulling back the safety, and firing it at him.

The 11-year-old allegedly stated to law enforcement that he had not considered the consequences after shooting his father. Clayton was apprehended on the day of the incident and charged with criminal homicide, with a preliminary court hearing scheduled for January 22.

Local reports indicated that his parents had reached out to his school in the months prior, seeking assistance for their son. Clayton, who has autism, was displaying increasingly uncontrollable behaviors, including sexual harassment, physical aggression, and theft.

Allegedly, their requests were denied as Clayton did not meet the necessary criteria. A neighbor speaking to 6ABC mentioned that the Dietz family appeared to be kind and reserved, expressing surprise at the tragic turn of events.

Following the shooting, the Susquenita School District in Perry County issued a statement acknowledging the potential impact on students in the community and offering support through school counselors and psychologists.
