Newly released video footage captures the intense moment when passengers were forced to evacuate a Boeing aircraft following a sudden tire blowout during landing. The incident took place at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Georgia, US, involving a LATAM Airlines flight from Peru. Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene, with the Boeing 767-300ER surrounded by fire engines. An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the tire blowout.
Passengers onboard described a loud banging noise and violent shaking as the plane made contact with the runway. Liza Karseno, a passenger, expressed her gratitude for surviving the ordeal, emphasizing the importance of safety over belongings. Concerns arose about the plane’s ability to come to a stop due to its speed upon landing. Images revealed the tires ripped from the landing gear, with reports of damage to the bathroom door and overhead storage compartments opening during the landing.
Firefighters successfully evacuated all passengers without any reported injuries. The Boeing 767-300ER is commonly used by LATAM Peru for long-haul flights between Lima and Atlanta, accommodating up to 221 passengers. In a previous incident last August, a British holidaymaker recounted a similar experience when a tire exploded during takeoff on a TUI flight from Corfu to Birmingham. The pilot ensured a safe landing despite the tire issue, following proper safety protocols.
The Mirror has reached out to the airline for further comments on the incident.
