As a result, the England and Wales Cricket Board has implemented a curfew for the players ahead of their upcoming matches against Sri Lanka and the T20 World Cup.
Players will be required to adhere to a curfew and maintain responsible behavior in public. They must return to the team hotel by midnight. The team is scheduled to play three ODIs and T20s against Sri Lanka before heading to India and Sri Lanka for the World Cup in February.
The incidents during the Ashes, including a video of a drunken player going viral, have prompted introspection and apologies from the team members. Brook, who will lead England in the T20 World Cup, expressed remorse for his behavior and vowed to uphold the standards expected of representing the country.
Amidst the controversies, ECB director of cricket Rob Key has faced criticism for his handling of the team’s culture. Key emphasized the importance of professionalism and responsible behavior among the players, highlighting the need for a change in the team’s drinking culture.
Following the Ashes series, ECB chief executive Richard Gould initiated a review to address tour planning, player performance, and behavioral issues within the team. The board aims to enhance preparation and adaptability to ensure better outcomes in the future.
