The 7.4-magnitude quake, the strongest in Colombia in decades, struck the country’s coffee-producing region, leaving numerous buildings in ruins.

According to the United Nations OCHA, as of Monday night, 126 deaths and 1,495 injuries had been confirmed. However, updated figures on Tuesday suggest the death toll could be around 254, with ongoing rescue operations revealing the full extent of the disaster.
Nearly 5,000 homes suffered damage, and numerous structures collapsed in the aftermath of the earthquake. In cities like Cali and Pereira, residents are coping with the destruction, salvaging belongings, and seeking refuge as they await assistance. The earthquake also caused significant disruptions to infrastructure, with airports and roads being closed due to damages.
International aid is mobilizing to support the affected areas, with the United States and the Inter-American Development Bank pledging financial assistance for emergency relief and reconstruction efforts.
