“Daring Bridges Around the Globe Test Fear of Heights”

Date:

A common fear of heights is put to the test by these daring bridges around the globe. From majestic architectural feats to purely functional structures, bridges serve as essential travel links but some are truly spine-chilling.

One such hair-raising structure is the Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge in China, a pedestrian-only bridge with a 300-meter glass floor hovering 375 meters above the Karst valley. Across the Arkansas River, the Royal Gorge Bridge suspends 1,257 wooden planks 956 feet in the air, offering a thrilling experience with nearby amusement park attractions.

In China, the Huajiang Canyon Bridge towers 625 meters above the Beipan River, attracting daredevils with bungee jumping and slack-lining opportunities. Dubbed the “most dangerous bridge in the world,” a 635-foot-long suspended bridge with wooden planks and gaps for wind resistance challenges adventurers over rushing waters.

Japan’s Kazurabashi Bridge, made of tree vines, sways above the Iya River, providing a precarious crossing. The Tarn Gorge Valley in Southern France hosts the Millau Viaduct, a cable-stayed bridge that reaches 343 meters high, previously holding the title of the world’s tallest bridge.

Nestled in the Swiss Alps, the Trift Suspension Bridge, standing 100 meters above a glacier-formed lake, is one of the highest and longest pedestrian suspension bridges in the region. For a jungle adventure, the Kakum Canopy Walkway in Ghana offers a thrilling 250-meter walk at 40 meters above the ground.

In Northern Ireland, the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, initially built by salmon fishermen in 1755, hangs nearly 30 meters above sea level, beckoning courageous visitors to brave its wobbling path along rugged cliffs.
