A heart specialist who previously managed the medical care of former Vice President Dick Cheney is calling on Congress to examine President Donald Trump’s mental acuity. Dr. Jonathan Reiner, an experienced cardiologist and well-known public figure, raised concerns about the president’s mental state based on his public statements and written communications.
This request from Dr. Reiner follows Trump’s recent message to European leaders outlining his personal opinions on America’s foreign policy objectives. In a letter to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Trump referenced his failure to receive the Nobel Peace Prize and tied it to his political interests in Greenland.
Expressing his belief that securing Greenland is vital for global security, Trump asserted his contributions to NATO and emphasized the importance of the United States having complete control over Greenland. Dr. Reiner remarked on Trump’s letter, labeling it as a significant warning sign that warrants a bipartisan congressional investigation into the president’s fitness for office.
Additionally, Dr. Reiner criticized Trump’s recent actions, including endorsing a primary challenger to Senator Bill Cassidy and not supporting Senator Cassidy after his endorsement of RFK Jr for HHS Secretary. The doctor’s concerns about Trump’s health and ability to lead are not new, as he previously questioned Trump’s understanding of medical issues, particularly related to blood thinning medication.
Despite Trump’s claims of good health, supported by his physician Navy Capt Sean Barbabella, who reported no anomalies in regular scans, doubts persist about Trump’s overall well-being and fitness for governance.
