British boxer Anthony Joshua paid his respects to his late friends, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, at a funeral home after being released from the hospital. Joshua sustained minor injuries in a car accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, where tragically, both Ghami and Ayodele lost their lives.
Following his discharge from a Lagos hospital, Joshua will continue his recovery at his home in Nigeria. Before returning home, Joshua accompanied his mother to visit the funeral home where his friends were laid to rest.
A statement from local government officials expressed condolences to the families of Ghami and Ayodele, who passed away in the accident involving Joshua. The government officials extended prayers for the souls of the deceased and strength for their families during this difficult time.
Joshua, who had been in Nigeria for a holiday after defeating Jake Paul in Miami, was involved in the accident while traveling in a black SUV that collided with a stationary truck, resulting in the tragic loss of his friends. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, with authorities searching for the truck driver who illegally parked on the highway’s hard shoulder.
The driver of the SUV, who has provided a statement to the police, was discharged from the hospital. As per Babatunde Akinbiyi, a spokesperson for Ogun State’s Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, preliminary investigations revealed that overspeeding and a burst front tire caused the accident. The SUV lost control, swerved, and collided with the parked truck due to excessive speed.
