Three individuals have been apprehended following the distressing discovery of 29 deceased dogs in a backyard, while an additional 24 dogs were found inside the residence in a malnourished state. The arrests of Curtis Dewayne Haralson, Patricia Ann Sims, and Tiffany Ann Sims were made after law enforcement responded to a neighbor’s report regarding the animals’ welfare concerns.
The authorities revealed that the deceased dogs were found in plastic bags piled up in the yard, with the animals varying in age from puppies to adults. Inside the house, 24 emaciated dogs, ranging in age, were rescued. No charges have been filed yet, but the sheriff’s office indicated that felony charges are likely for all three individuals involved.
In a separate incident in Alabama, a couple, Marchelle Pertilla and Eugene Medrano, were arrested for child neglect after their 14-year-old daughter was discovered living in unsanitary conditions in a caravan with seven dogs, one of which was deceased. Pertilla faces charges of child abuse and multiple counts of dog cruelty, while Medrano is charged with dog cruelty offenses as well.
Law enforcement found the caravan covered in filth and discovered a dead dog in a closet, with the trailer being described as unsanitary and cluttered with waste. The young girl reported that her mother and stepfather had left her alone in Alabama while they resided in Florida. The couple visited the girl in the hospital and were subsequently arrested.
Further investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the girl’s living conditions and whether any prior reports were made to law enforcement. Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch expressed the need for more information on why the girl was left alone, as reported by NBC affiliate WFLA.
