Newly released maps display the projected route of the approaching Storm Goretti, which is set to bring a potent mix of snow, ice, rain, and gusts reaching up to 100mph.
The Met Office has issued amber weather alerts nationwide due to the ‘multi-hazard’ weather event triggered by Storm Goretti. Additionally, a red alert warning of life-threatening conditions has been declared for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, prompting emergency alerts sent to residents advising them to remain indoors.

Parts of the Midlands are expected to witness heavy snow accumulation of up to 30cm in the upcoming hours as Storm Goretti advances from the southwest. Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill cautioned about the storm’s impact, stating it would bring a mix of wet, windy, and wintry conditions across various regions of the UK.
Burkill elaborated that Storm Goretti, named by Meteo France, would usher in strong winds and notable snowfall particularly in central and southern areas. He added, “As the rain encounters the cold air mass prevailing across the region… on its northern boundary, significant snowfall is likely as we progress into tomorrow and Friday.”
The UK Health Security Agency has issued amber alerts for cold weather health risks extending until January 11, with severe repercussions anticipated for health and social care services. Authorities foresee an escalation in fatalities, especially among individuals aged 65 and above or those with underlying medical conditions, with potential impacts also affecting younger demographics.
Projected weather conditions for this evening depict the storm enveloping much of England and Wales by 6 pm.
By 9 pm, heavy snowfall is predicted across Wales and the Midlands, with cities like Birmingham expecting snow accumulation exceeding two inches per hour.
London, Essex, and Kent are slated to face intense rainfall around midnight.
By early Friday morning, Arctic conditions will be felt in parts of Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire.
Although conditions are expected to improve in Wales and the East Midlands, the storm will still be active in the eastern regions by 6 am.
As the storm moves towards East Anglia and the continent, isolated snow showers are forecast in Lancashire, the northeast, and Suffolk.
The impact of the storm will still be lingering in certain parts of the country by noon tomorrow.
