“UK Braces for Heavy Snowfall, Schools Close Amid Freezing Temps”

Date:

A significant snowfall is expected to hit a broad area encompassing Wales and England, potentially burying residents under up to 10 inches of snow in the upcoming days, as indicated by recent weather forecasts. According to snow depth projections by Metdesk, a 240-mile expanse from Swansea to Norwich could experience snow accumulation of up to 10.6 inches on Friday. The deepest snowfall is anticipated in Wales, particularly in the Brecon Beacons National Park, where nearly a foot of snow is predicted to settle by Friday morning.

In England, the most substantial snowdrifts are forecasted to occur just beyond the border in the Cotswolds, with potential accumulations of up to 9 inches on the same day. Scotland is expected to witness the most significant snow patches, with depths reaching up to 23 inches in the northwest.

As temperatures drop to freezing levels, schools across the UK have announced closures for Monday due to severe weather warnings for snow and ice in the upcoming days. The Met Office has issued weather advisories cautioning the public about the approaching frigid conditions, with temperatures expected to fall below zero. Weather maps depict a sharp decline to -11°C within the next 24 hours, with widespread snowfall leading to accumulations of up to 16 inches in some areas.

The Met Office’s forecast for Tuesday through Thursday outlines the movement of a “band of rain and snow across the UK, followed by drier conditions on Thursday before the possibility of another round of rain and snow later in the week.”
