“UK Men’s Plus-Size Fashion Brand Big Boys Goes Bankrupt”

Date:

A men’s fashion brand based in the UK has gone out of business after going into administration. Great Clothing Ltd, known as Big Boys, specialized in offering plus-size clothing for men ranging from 2XL to 10XL. The company, situated in Leeds, had an average workforce of 12 individuals in 2025.

Chris Brooksbank from CB Business Recovery Ltd has been designated as the administrator. The company’s website posted a notice stating that the decision to cease trading was made after thorough evaluation and with reluctance. Despite extensive efforts to tackle financial difficulties, the company could not sustain its operations.

An insolvency firm has been appointed to handle the company’s affairs, business, and assets, with their licensed Insolvency Practitioner soon to take up the role of administrator.

In other retail developments, River Island is shutting down at least 27 stores this month as part of a significant reorganization plan. The struggling fashion retailer had initially announced the closure of 33 stores, including branches in Brighton, Edinburgh Princes Street, Great Yarmouth, and Stockton-on-Tees, which shuttered in late 2025.

Stores in Norwich, Norfolk, and Workington, Cumbria are also on the closure list, with closure dates pending confirmation. As part of the restructure, River Island is also reducing rents at 71 other stores. The brand had 223 stores in the UK and Ireland when the rescue plan was presented in court in August.

Poundland is also set to close 12 shops in January following High Court approval of its restructuring. The discount retailer had closed 57 stores by the end of September under the approved plans after being acquired by investment firm Gordon Brothers for £1. Poundland, which had 800 stores last summer, anticipates reducing its branches to around 650 to 700 through closures and natural lease expirations.

The discount chain recently introduced a simplified pricing model of £1, £2, and £3 in its UK stores, with 60% of grocery items priced at £1, 20% at £2, and 20% at £3. Additionally, the Poundland website has been updated to only showcase products for browsing, with no online purchasing option available.
