Donald Trump, in a post on Truth Social, humorously referred to himself as the “acting President of Venezuela” with a fabricated Wikipedia page. The post depicts him as the ‘incumbent’ starting January 2026, following the capture of Nicolas Maduro, seemingly poking fun at Delcy Rodriguez, the country’s interim president.
After the US forces took Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, from Caracas on January 3, Maduro’s former vice president, Rodriguez, was sworn in last week. Maduro, denying the charges of narco-terrorism in New York, asserted his legitimacy as Venezuela’s rightful leader.
Trump’s fake Wikipedia entry features his official portrait from assuming the US presidency last year, claiming the role of “acting President of Venezuela” alongside his position as the President of the United States.
The Trump administration stated its intention to oversee Venezuela until it achieves stability for self-governance without specifying a timeline. Amid skepticism about Trump’s motivations related to Venezuela’s resources, he engaged with oil company executives to potentially control oil distribution.
Despite holding the world’s largest proven crude oil reserves, Venezuela’s average daily oil production is significantly lower than that of the US. The White House views its actions in Venezuela through an economic lens, including seizing tankers carrying Venezuelan oil and controlling the sales of previously sanctioned crude oil globally.
Rodriguez, the acting president of Venezuela, responded to Trump’s threats by affirming her faith in a higher power and stating that her fate is determined by God, not external forces.
