“PGA Tour Thrives as Koepka Returns, LIV Golf Faces Challenges”

Date:

Tommy Fleetwood has expressed his approval of Brooks Koepka’s comeback to the PGA Tour, noting that LIV Golf has not approached him during the postseason. Koepka recently left the Saudi-backed tour and swiftly returned to his home circuit, with his first event back scheduled for the Farmers Insurance Open next week, which is seen as a significant positive for the PGA Tour.

The pressure is now on LIV Golf to retain their other prominent players, as Patrick Reed has hinted that he may also make a return. Fleetwood, currently ranked world No.3, praised the PGA Tour for offering top-notch events and substantial prize money, emphasizing his gratitude for being able to compete at such prestigious tournaments.

Regarding Koepka’s return, Fleetwood believes it is a beneficial development for the PGA Tour and the future remains uncertain in terms of player movements. Fleetwood, who earned $10 million by winning his first PGA Tour event at the Tour Championships, is now aiming for his first Major victory, emphasizing the importance of aligning goals and dreams with the choice of where to compete.

LIV Golf, funded by Newcastle’s owners the Public Investment Fund, made significant investments in the initial seasons, including substantial deals with players like Koepka and John Rahm. However, this year’s signings have been less high-profile, with new additions such as Victor Perez, Laurie Canter, Thomas Detrie, Elvis Smylie, and Ben An.

Despite being a target in the past, Fleetwood acknowledged that LIV Golf has not pursued him recently. He speculated on the strategies LIV Golf might employ to attract top players, noting the significant financial investments required. His Ryder Cup teammate Shane Lowry supported Koepka’s decision to return to the PGA Tour, highlighting the positive impact on the tournament landscape.

Lowry also reflected on his recent performance at the Dubai Invitational, expressing his determination to move past a disappointing 72nd-hole double bogey. The Irishman remains focused on playing to the best of his ability in upcoming tournaments.
