“New NHS Online Hospitals Offer Specialized Care at Your Fingertips”

Date:

Patients will now have access to specialized care for prostate issues, menopause symptoms, and eye problems through newly established NHS Online hospitals. Upon referral from their general practitioners, individuals can engage with specialists via video consultations using the NHS app, expediting the process of receiving specialized care and reducing waiting times. This initiative will enable patients to consult with doctors nationwide and avoid unnecessary hospital visits.

During his speech at the Labour conference in September, Keir Starmer heralded the arrival of a “new world” as he introduced the upcoming NHS Online service. The service, set to commence next year, will initially focus on nine common conditions, including women’s health concerns like severe menopause symptoms and menstrual issues indicative of endometriosis or fibroids. Additionally, prostate conditions such as enlargement and elevated PSA levels, as well as eye ailments like cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration, will be addressed. NHS Online will also extend support for other challenging conditions like iron deficiency anemia and inflammatory bowel disease.

While tests, scans, and procedures will still be conducted at healthcare facilities near patients’ residences, the new system will allow healthcare providers to remotely review patient records. Face-to-face appointments will remain an option for patients, particularly those requiring physical examinations or procedures, which can be performed at hospitals or local hubs nearby.

NHS England’s national clinical director for elective care, Professor Stella Vig, emphasized the importance of swift access to diagnosis and treatments for the identified conditions, stating that it will significantly improve people’s lives. Dr. Sue Mann, the national clinical director in women’s health at NHS England, highlighted the impact of menstrual problems and menopause symptoms on women’s lives and stressed the necessity for quicker access to effective treatments through NHS Online.

The NHS App, already accessible on smartphones and tablets, allows patients to manage appointments, order repeat prescriptions, and view GP health records. Opting for Daily Mirror as a ‘Preferred Source’ on Google News ensures quick access to the news that matters to you.
