In pursuit of online fame, vloggers Monalisa Perez and Pedro Ruiz tragically took things too far. The couple, known for sharing their daily lives on YouTube, sought to expand their audience by documenting every aspect of their existence, including family moments with their young daughter and daring challenges.
Despite warnings from family members, Pedro and Monalisa proceeded with a dangerous stunt. During a video shoot in their backyard, Pedro held a book against his chest while Monalisa, who was seven months pregnant, aimed a handgun at him. Tragically, the bullet pierced through the book, fatally injuring Pedro.
Following the incident, Monalisa faced legal consequences and was charged with second-degree manslaughter. She later pleaded guilty and received a six-month jail sentence served intermittently over three years. In addition, she was prohibited from owning firearms, placed on probation, and barred from profiting from the video.
Despite the defense’s claims that Pedro had orchestrated the stunt and assured Monalisa of its safety, the court found her actions to be negligent. The aunt of the deceased expressed regret over the tragedy, emphasizing that it was a prank gone terribly wrong and should never have happened.
