RCMP have arrested a 52-year-old individual following an inquiry into allegations of illegally rebranding cattle. Livestock branding is a common method to establish ownership of livestock. On July 6, Livestock Services of Saskatchewan was alerted to potential tampering with cattle brands at a farm in the rural municipality of Martin, located approximately 225 kilometers east of Regina, according to a news release issued by the RCMP on Wednesday. Owen Third, the livestock investigator for Saskatchewan RCMP, collaborated with officers from the Moosomin RCMP and Livestock Services of Saskatchewan to examine 197 head of cattle at the farm. RCMP reported that 99 of the cattle had an altered brand placed over the original one, while the rest were fraudulently branded with a new mark. The individual in question faces charges of altering a cattle brand and committing fraud exceeding $5,000. The accused is set to appear in court for the first time next month.
