Lloyds Bank clients are no longer able to deposit checks at Post Office branches due to a recent change. This adjustment also affects Halifax and Bank of Scotland, both part of the Lloyds Banking Group. Despite this change, customers can still perform cash withdrawals and deposits at Post Office locations.
Reports indicate that the banks, serving a combined customer base of approximately 28 million individuals, eliminated the option to deposit checks last month, simultaneous with the announcement of further bank branch closures. Lloyds Banking Group recently disclosed plans to shutter an additional 95 bank branches between May this year and March 2027, encompassing closures of 53 Lloyds, 31 Halifax, and 11 Bank of Scotland branches.
Over the past decade, Lloyds Banking Group has closed 1,470 sites, as noted by consumer group Which?. To ensure continued access to cash nationwide, the cash access network Link has identified 14 new locations that will host banking hubs.
Banking hubs are collaborative spaces operated by staff from various banks on rotating schedules, offering services such as cash withdrawals, deposits, and bill payments. A spokesperson from Lloyds mentioned that most customers now prefer utilizing the bank’s app to deposit checks by simply taking a photo on their mobile device, with the bank handling the rest of the process.
While the exact number of staff affected by the closures was not specified, Lloyds assured that employees from the closed branches would be offered roles at other sites or within different areas of the business. The ongoing branch closure initiative will see 49 sites shutting down by October, following the announcement of 136 closures about a year ago. Once the previously announced closures are finalized, Lloyds will retain 610 branches in operation.
A spokeswoman emphasized that Lloyds aims to provide customers with diverse banking options to suit their preferences, including mobile apps, 24/7 messaging services, community bankers, PayPoint services, and access to all Lloyds, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland branches. Customers can bank conveniently and flexibly using the range of services offered by the bank.
