“ICE Agent Shoots Man Amid Protests in Minneapolis”

Date:

An ICE agent was involved in a shooting incident, marking the second one in recent weeks after the death of Renee Good, sparking unrest in Minneapolis with protests erupting in the streets.

Following the killing of American citizen Renee Good by officer Jonathon Ross on January 7, Minnesota’s major city was thrown into turmoil when a federal agency officer shot a man in the leg, escalating tensions in an already volatile area.

City officials urged for peace and reiterated their demand for the organization to vacate the city and state immediately amid scenes of unrest in the streets.

In a statement with political undertones invoking Joe Biden, the Department for Homeland Security identified the victim as a Venezuelan migrant who allegedly attempted to assault an ICE officer.

According to a department spokesperson, the altercation occurred during a targeted traffic stop of an undocumented Venezuelan migrant released into the country by Joe Biden. The migrant purportedly tried to flee, crashed his vehicle, and then ran on foot.

The spokesperson stated that the immigrant resisted and attacked the officer when confronted. It was claimed that two individuals further assaulted the officer with a snow shovel and broom handle.

Following the confrontation, the initial target of the traffic stop allegedly began striking the officer with a shovel or broomstick, leading the agent to fire his weapon in self-defense. The DHS asserted that the agent fired defensive shots to protect his life. Both the officer and the subject were hospitalized.

The City of Minneapolis confirmed that the injured man was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Despite calls for ICE to leave immediately, the DHS responded, blaming public resistance for the altercation and defending the actions of law enforcement officers against American citizens.

The DHS criticized Governor Walz and Mayor Frey for allegedly encouraging resistance against ICE and federal law enforcement officers, stating that the assaults on law enforcement have increased significantly.

Minnesota is currently experiencing a significant presence of ICE agents, with around 3,000 deployed to the state following the recent incident involving Renee Good. The deployment has faced criticism, with Mayor Jacob Frey accusing ICE of causing chaos and Governor Tim Walz referring to it as an “occupation.”
