Two dangerous criminals, Matthew Armstrong and Daniel Washbourne, have escaped from HMP Leyhill in South Gloucestershire. The escape occurred on New Year’s Day, and Avon and Somerset Police are currently searching for the fugitives. Another inmate, Aaron Thomas, was apprehended in Bristol and is expected to appear in court. CCTV footage captures Armstrong and Washbourne casually leaving the prison together. Armstrong, a convicted killer serving a life sentence, made his escape with the other two men last Thursday evening. Open prisons like HMP Leyhill offer minimal security, allowing eligible prisoners to engage in work and educational activities outside the facility.
The police have obtained CCTV footage of the fugitives’ attire on New Year’s Day and are seeking public assistance in locating them. Urgent measures, including nationwide alerts, have been initiated to track their movements. The authorities advise the public not to approach the individuals if spotted. Armstrong, described as white with ginger hair and scars on his forehead, was last seen wearing specific clothing. He has ties to Warwickshire and was previously convicted for a robbery-related murder in the region. Washbourne, on the other hand, is described as white with brown hair, slim build, and last seen in distinctive clothing. He has ties to Herefordshire and a history of offenses including false imprisonment.
