The Brampton Honey Badgers and the Winnipeg Sea Bears emerged victorious in their conference finals, setting up a showdown in the Canadian Elite Basketball League championship series. Xavier Moon led the Sea Bears to a 107-96 win over the Vancouver Bandits, while the Honey Badgers defeated the Niagara River Lions 91-81 to secure their spots in the finals.
This championship will mark the first time the league winner will be determined by a series, departing from the previous single-game format. The series will kick off with Game 1 scheduled for Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET, with live streaming available on CBC Gem and CBCSports.ca. Brampton, as the lower seed, will host the initial game before heading to Winnipeg for Game 2 and potentially Game 3.
Moon’s stellar performance, scoring 24 points, propelled the Sea Bears to their first-ever final appearance, with Simon Hildebrandt also contributing 24 points in the victory. Isiah Osborne sealed the win with a game-winning three-pointer at the Langley Events Centre.
In the other conference final, the Honey Badgers’ Tyrese Hunter sank a game-winning three-pointer, finishing with five treys in total, to secure Brampton’s victory over the River Lions. Sean East II and Trentyn Flowers were instrumental in the Honey Badgers’ win, with East II scoring 22 points and Flowers adding 20.
Both teams are now gearing up for a highly anticipated championship series, with the possibility of Brampton joining the ranks of Niagara and the Edmonton Stingers as the only teams to clinch two CEBL titles.
