BT Broadband customers in the UK are in for a pleasant surprise as BT Mobile prepares to re-enter the market after pausing new customer sign-ups in 2023. The company had previously focused on its EE network brand, but now there is a notable shift in strategy. BT has announced that its existing broadband customers will soon have access to BT-branded SIM deals once again.
While specific details are yet to be disclosed, this move indicates BT’s commitment to enhancing the visibility of its well-established brand, which had taken a backseat to EE in recent years. CEO Allison Kirkby, who assumed leadership in 2024, is determined to revitalize BT’s presence among UK households to prevent the brand from losing public recognition.
Kirkby emphasized the company’s recent network investments and expressed the need to further invest in their brands, products, and services during an event at Wembley. This relaunch will position BT in direct competition with major providers like Vodafone and O2, as well as popular low-cost networks such as Giffgaff, Tesco Mobile, and SMARTY.
Although pricing details are pending, BT aims to offer bundled packages that include broadband, landline, and mobile SIM services on a single monthly bill. Industry analyst Paolo Pescatore views this move as an effort to stay relevant in a fiercely competitive telecoms market, highlighting the importance of network resilience and trust beyond mere coverage.
BT also announced its partnership as the official telecoms provider for the UEFA Euro 2028 tournament, which will be hosted in various locations across Britain and Ireland. Pescatore emphasized the significance of this deal as a demonstration of scale, relevance, and delivery, noting that sports events like UEFA Euro 2028 have a unique ability to unite people and create lasting emotional connections.
