Two young brothers have been accused of causing severe injuries to a teenage girl during a high-speed race on the Sandbanks peninsula in Dorset. The incident occurred in the early hours of Boxing Day in 2023. Harrison Taylor, 19, was driving a Mercedes A200 while his 21-year-old brother, Henry, was behind the wheel of a BMW 135i. The court was informed that the brothers were given these powerful vehicles to cope with their parents’ separation.
Harrison reportedly lost control of his Mercedes at 90mph, crashing into a gatepost of a luxurious mansion, leading to a subsequent collision with Henry’s BMW. The impact left Mia Savage, a 17-year-old passenger in the Mercedes, seriously injured and trapped in the wreckage. Mia suffered multiple injuries, including a shattered femur, fractured neck, broken arm, ribs, and severe internal bleeding.
Following the accident, Mia underwent extensive surgery and spent time in a coma. She faced physical challenges with traction for her limbs and a neck brace. Additionally, her educational and career plans were disrupted, as she missed out on a sports scholarship and her preferred university due to the injuries sustained.
The Taylor brothers pleaded guilty to causing serious injury through dangerous driving and appeared at Bournemouth Crown Court for sentencing. Despite avoiding immediate imprisonment, they were handed suspended sentences and a three-year driving ban. Mia’s mother expressed disappointment at the outcome, emphasizing the lasting impact on their lives.
The court heard that the brothers, along with friends, had been driving recklessly in a convoy of cars before the crash occurred. The judge condemned their actions as reckless and selfish, highlighting the devastating consequences for Mia. Despite the lack of alcohol or drugs in their systems, the judge criticized the brothers for their irresponsible behavior and lack of remorse.
