An acclaimed B&B and café has ceased operations, delivering a significant blow to the local community. The closure of The Dove Inn, known for its gluten-free offerings, in Alburgh, Norfolk, was attributed by owner Sonya Resemblance to the challenging location that resulted in limited foot traffic.
This closure adds to the mounting challenges faced by pubs and hospitality establishments across Britain. The closure of the popular White Horse in Beaconsfield and the ongoing struggles within the industry highlight the financial strains and evolving consumer behaviors impacting businesses.
Despite being recognized as one of the top 50 cafés in the UK at the 2025 Small Business Awards shortly before its closure, The Dove Inn shut its doors after two and a half years of operation. Sonya Resemblance, who took over the establishment in July 2023, expressed pride in providing a gluten-free menu, catering to individuals with dietary restrictions.
Acknowledging the positive impact the business had on the community, Sonya emphasized the job opportunities, training programs, and events aimed at promoting mental well-being. However, she lamented the inability to sustain operations at the current location, attributing the closure to the challenging circumstances.
Despite efforts from loyal patrons to support the business, the closure was confirmed on January 16, eliciting an outpouring of supportive messages. Customers expressed sorrow over the closure, reminiscing about the pleasant experiences and delicious food offered by the establishment.
The closure announcement comes after The Dove Inn had previously acknowledged the industry-wide challenges affecting retail and hospitality sectors. Sonya, in a social media post, highlighted the difficulties faced by businesses in the current economic climate but expressed gratitude for the community’s support throughout the journey.
