Anthony Joshua has returned to England following a tragic car accident that claimed the lives of two individuals. The British heavyweight boxer arrived at London Stansted Airport on Friday night and was then transported to his residence for further recovery, as reported by The Sun.
The funerals for Joshua’s friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, are scheduled to take place at a mosque in London. Close family and friends have been invited to attend a ‘janaza prayer service’ in honor of the deceased friends.
There is uncertainty surrounding Joshua’s attendance at the funeral, with concerns that his presence could attract unwanted attention. Reports indicate that Joshua narrowly escaped the accident by switching seats just moments before the fatal journey that claimed the lives of his friends, with the boxer sustaining minor injuries.
The driver of the vehicle, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving. His lawyer stated that the incident was an accident and that the brakes allegedly failed. Kayode, 46, was driving Joshua and his friends when the collision occurred on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. He has been released from the hospital and is awaiting trial on January 20.
Following his own discharge from the hospital, Joshua paid his respects to Ghami and Ayodele at a funeral home in Lagos before returning to his home in Nigeria for recovery. The bodies of the deceased have since been repatriated to the United Kingdom after a somber visit by Joshua and his mother to the funeral home.
