EE has unveiled an enhanced version of its Scam Guard service to combat the increasing prevalence of scams targeting mobile users in the UK. The upgraded service, available to all EE pay-monthly mobile customers for a monthly fee of £2, aims to provide improved protection against cyber threats.
Since its inception in 2024, Scam Guard has already thwarted 169 million scam and spam attempts. With the latest upgrade, EE anticipates doubling the number of prevented scams over the next year.
The new Scam Guard features AI Triple-Lock Protection, a combination of digital safety measures powered by Norton’s Genie AI engine. These include Safe Email, which offers proactive scam protection for email accounts, Safe SMS that detects sophisticated scams in text messages in real-time, and Safe Web that blocks malicious websites during online activities.
Additionally, the upgrade introduces Scam Assistant, enabling customers to receive instant advice on the safety of texts, emails, websites, and more by uploading screenshots. Social Media Monitoring and Dark Web Monitoring are also included to alert customers of any suspicious activity online promptly.
Malcolm Cubitt, Director of Product, Mobile at EE, highlighted the importance of adapting to evolving fraud threats and emphasized the company’s commitment to enhancing cybersecurity measures for customers. By investing in network-level controls and leveraging innovative technologies like the enhanced Scam Guard service, EE aims to provide customers with advanced protection against cyber threats.
