Eddie Hearn has given an update on Anthony Joshua, who has returned to training at the gym following a tragic car accident in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two of his close friends and team members, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami.
Despite sustaining only minor injuries, Joshua narrowly escaped the fatal crash by changing seats before the journey. Recently, the former two-time heavyweight champion was seen back in the gym, resuming his training in Dubai.
Hearn, Joshua’s longtime promoter at Matchroom Boxing, met with Joshua and shared a post on Instagram, praising his strength and resilience in the face of adversity. Hearn emphasized that Joshua would take the necessary time to recover and expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support during this difficult time.
Following the accident, there have been uncertainties surrounding Joshua’s future in boxing. Hearn mentioned that Joshua would require a significant period away from the sport to process the tragedy.
Hearn stated that it is crucial to allow Joshua the space and time to heal and make decisions about his boxing career independently. He emphasized that Joshua’s voice would be the only one determining his future in the sport.
Joshua has yet to address the speculation about his boxing career and has instead paid tribute to his late friends on social media, acknowledging the impact they had on his life.
Legal proceedings against Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, the driver involved in the accident, will resume soon, with charges including causing death by dangerous driving among others.
