A woman accused of leaving the scene of a deadly accident near Fredericton will have her court appearance delayed by three weeks. Vanessa Ricketson, 27, faces charges related to the death of a 19-year-old man from Norton. Originally set to choose a trial mode in Fredericton provincial court on Tuesday, Ricketson was absent, with her defense lawyer requesting a postponement for evidence disclosure. Judge Lyne Raymond rescheduled the court date to September 1.
The incident occurred on the Trans-Canada Highway near Oromocto, where the young man was hit and killed while changing a tire after pulling over. The victim, who remains unidentified by the police, had taken safety precautions by moving off the highway, wearing a reflective vest, and activating the vehicle’s hazard lights.
Despite being named a person of interest two days after the March 19 crash, Ricketson was formally charged nearly four months later. The RCMP confirmed she is not currently in custody.
