The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is looking into a collision between a police cruiser and a civilian vehicle in Pickering, Ontario, that occurred on Friday. According to SIU spokesperson Monica Hudon, the incident took place around 7:30 p.m. on Kingston Road while a Durham Regional Police Service officer was en route to an emergency call.
The collision between the police cruiser and the civilian vehicle occurred at the intersection of Kingston Road and Brock Road. Following the crash, those in the civilian vehicle were taken to the hospital, with one of the passengers, a child, sustaining a serious injury.
Durham police verified that their officers were heading to a call when the collision happened at Kingston Road and Brock Road on Friday evening. Const. Nick Gluckstein stated that the SIU was informed and acted in accordance with its duties.
Durham police reported the road closures on social media after the incident, stating that Kingston Road was shut down at Brock Road in both directions, and southbound traffic on Brock Road from Finch Avenue was also affected. By early Saturday morning, the roadways had reopened for traffic following the collision investigation.
