The Ottawa Rapid have revealed Carmelina Moscato, a former Canadian national team defender, as their new head coach for the upcoming season. The current head coach, Katrine Pedersen, disclosed her departure from the Northern Super League leaders at the season’s end last month.
Moscato, a member of the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame, boasts a decorated career having participated in three Women’s World Cups and clinched a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics. She has previously coached in Denmark, Mexico, and most recently in Saudi Arabia.
The Rapid confirmed her appointment on a two-season contract, emphasizing her involvement in preparations for the upcoming seasons, including player recruitment. Thomas Gilbert, the team CEO, praised Moscato’s leadership, coaching prowess, technical expertise, and profound knowledge of Canadian soccer in an official statement.
Expressing her enthusiasm, Moscato acknowledged the strong foundation established by the Rapid and highlighted her commitment to enhancing player performance, development, and competitiveness at the highest level. Ottawa is currently leading the NSL standings with 10 victories in 15 matches, with their last defeat dating back to late May.
The Rapid’s upcoming match is scheduled in Calgary at 4 p.m. on Saturday, and fans can watch it live on CBC Gem.
