Superdrug has announced intentions to launch 30 fresh outlets this year, generating approximately 600 employment opportunities. Among the new store locations in England are White Rose Leeds, Crawley, Waterlooville Retail Park, Newport Retail Park, and Isle of Wight. Additionally, Superdrug will introduce new stores in Scotland, including Dundee Gallagher Retail Park, Kilmarnock Retail Park, East Kilbride, Strathkelvin Retail Park, and Linwood Phoenix Retail Park, as well as Cwmbran Retail Park in Wales.
These new stores will feature Superdrug Beauty Studios, offering services such as ear piercing, manicures, and eyebrow threading. Superdrug also disclosed plans to refurbish 60 stores throughout the year. Currently, the health and beauty retailer operates over 780 stores in the UK and Ireland.
Superdrug executives cited “strong customer demand” as the driving force behind the expansion plans. The company emphasized its commitment to investing in “large-format destination stores and retail park locations.” Clare Jennings, Superdrug’s property director, expressed confidence in physical retail and highlighted the aim to create comprehensive beauty, healthcare, and treatment hubs within local communities through the new stores.
Furthermore, M&S unveiled a list of 500 potential locations for new stores to bolster its food business. Seeking larger sites to double the size of its food operations, M&S is eyeing areas like Hove, Marlborough, and Wallingford. The supermarket aims to enhance its Food stores to an average size of 18,000 square feet, with plans to open or renew 20 outlets by year-end, resulting in the creation of 800 jobs. This strategic move is geared towards offering a wider product range and attracting more customers for their weekly shopping needs.
