“Double Amputee Hari Budha Magar Conquers Seven Summits”

Date:

Hari Budha Magar, a hero of the Pride of Britain awards, has achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the first double amputee to conquer the Seven Summits challenge, scaling the tallest peak on each continent across the globe.

The former Gurkha veteran reached the summit of Mount Vinson in Antarctica on January 7th, planting a flag from Mirror at the peak. Using specially designed prosthetic legs for snow and ice conditions, he successfully climbed 4892m to complete this daunting challenge.

Reflecting on his achievement, Hari expressed his overwhelming emotions, stating, “It’s just an amazing feeling. I don’t know how we did it – but the Seven Summits are complete. As someone with a disability – with double over knee amputation – I have done the impossible and climbed them all. I feel very emotional.”

Having lost his legs in a tragic incident in Afghanistan in 2010, Hari battled through despair and attempted suicide. Overcoming his darkest moments, the 46-year-old set out on this extraordinary journey to summit the highest peaks and raise funds totaling £884,900 for five charitable organizations.

The Seven Summits challenge, renowned as the pinnacle of mountaineering accomplishments, includes conquering peaks like Mount Everest, Mount Kilimanjaro, Denali, Aconcagua, and others. Though inaccessible to Westerners, Hari substituted the Russian peak with Mont Blanc in France, a feat acknowledged by Guinness World Records.

Enduring treacherous conditions during the Vinson climb, Hari faced physical and mental challenges. He described the experience as daunting, with moments of doubt and physical strain. However, his perseverance paid off as he marveled at the breathtaking view from the summit.

Born in Nepal, Hari’s journey from humble beginnings to military service and then to mountaineering triumphs is a testament to his resilience and determination. His inspiring story of overcoming adversity and achieving the seemingly impossible serves as a beacon of hope for many.

Looking ahead, Hari plans to share his life experiences in a book to inspire others. His message of resilience and optimism resonates with a global audience, reminding everyone that no dream is too big to pursue.
