“British Expat Killed in Toronto Altercation”

A British expatriate tragically lost his life following a violent altercation with another individual in the early hours of the morning, according to authorities. Luke Kellett-Smith, aged 34, was involved in a verbal dispute with Benard Emeka Oneh on December 28 outside a venue in Toronto. Oneh allegedly struck Kellett-Smith twice, leading to his untimely death on New Year’s Eve after he succumbed to his injuries.

The suspect, Emeka Oneh, aged 30, was promptly apprehended on December 28 and initially charged with aggravated assault. However, the charge was later elevated to manslaughter by the Toronto Police Service. The incident occurred at the intersection of Front Street West and University Avenue, where Oneh reportedly fled the scene but was swiftly apprehended on the same day.

Oneh was expected to appear at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre for further legal proceedings. The relationship between the two individuals or the events leading up to the fatal confrontation remain undisclosed.

Friends and family of Luke Kellett-Smith fondly remembered him as an adventurous and warm-hearted individual who left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered. A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise funds to repatriate Kellett-Smith’s remains to the UK, with donations surpassing £27,000. The aim is to reunite him with his deceased brother James in their hometown of Woking, providing solace to their grieving parents.
