US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled to hold discussions with Danish representatives regarding President Donald Trump’s proposal to acquire Greenland. Rubio mentioned to reporters that the meeting is set for next week. The White House has confirmed Trump’s interest in “taking over” Greenland before the end of his term.
While Trump’s preference is to negotiate the purchase of Greenland from Denmark, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that the President is willing to consider using the US military if Denmark rejects the offer. Leavitt emphasized that Trump views acquiring Greenland as a crucial national security objective to counter potential threats in the Arctic region.
Trump faced criticism from European leaders, with Denmark cautioning that a Greenland takeover could jeopardize the NATO alliance. In response, Trump took to Truth Social to express concerns about NATO’s support and accused Norway of overlooking him for the Nobel Prize. He also asserted that without US involvement, China and Russia would not fear NATO.
Despite the tensions, Trump assured that the US remains committed to NATO, even if reciprocity is in question.
