Sky Q has long been a popular TV device in the UK, known for its ability to record content onto its internal hard drive. Recently, Manhattan’s TV Team introduced a new competitor, the S4-R Freesat 4K TV Recorder. This device operates similarly to Sky Q, using a dish to deliver shows and movies to homes and offering storage for recordings. Users can enjoy interactive TV guides and the ability to pause live TV.
One major advantage of the Manhattan S4-R Freesat 4K TV Recorder is the absence of subscription fees after the initial purchase. With access to over 100 free TV and radio channels, users can enjoy entertainment without additional costs, although premium content like Sky Sports and Sky Cinema is not included. The S4-R can record multiple channels simultaneously, boasts a 500GB hard drive for about 300 hours of content, and will soon offer larger 1TB and 2TB versions for more storage space. It also supports live TV controls such as pausing and rewinding broadcasts.
The device promises a user-friendly interface, search capabilities, and access to a vast library of on-demand content through various apps like BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, and My5. Manhattan’s COO, Alex Arbab-Zadeh, highlighted the S4-R’s enhanced recording features, allowing up to four simultaneous recordings, double the previous limit. The S4-R is positioned as a compelling alternative to subscription TV, offering flexibility, choice, and cost savings.
The Manhattan S4-R is set to launch this month and will be sold at retailers like Currys, John Lewis, Argos, and Richer Sounds. Pricing starts at £219.99 for the 500GB model, with the 1TB version priced at £249.99 in May and the 2TB model at £279.99 in June.
