Jake Paul’s promotional company has issued a statement in response to allegations against his upcoming opponent Gervonta Davis. Davis faces accusations of battery, false imprisonment, and kidnapping from an ex-girlfriend.
Despite the controversy, the exhibition bout between Paul and Davis is scheduled for November 14 in Miami. The fight, set outside their usual weight classes, will not affect their professional records. A winner will be determined by stoppage, or by two human judges and an AI official if the fight goes the distance.
Calls to cancel the fight have emerged due to the allegations against Davis. Speculation suggested Paul might consider Ryan Garcia as a replacement, but Paul’s promotional company, Most Valuable Promotions, stated that no decision has been made yet.
Most Valuable Promotions confirmed initiating an investigation into the civil lawsuit filed against Davis. The statement emphasized their commitment to condemning violence and ensuring a thorough review before making any decisions. They plan to consult with relevant parties before commenting further.
Davis has not responded to the accusations, but his trainer dismissed them as baseless. The lawsuit claims Davis assaulted his ex-partner at her workplace and previously threatened her life. The ex-partner alleges multiple instances of physical assault and choking, seeking damages and a jury trial.
Ryan Garcia is no longer a potential replacement for Paul, as promoter Oscar De La Hoya cited contractual conflicts between Garcia, DAZN, and Golden Boy. Paul may delay his return to the ring until December and had previously been linked to a matchup with heavyweight Anthony Joshua, though a deal at short notice seems unlikely.
