Anticipate more snowfall in various parts of the UK today, with temperatures struggling to rise above freezing.
The Met Office remains vigilant about the cold weather, maintaining seven weather warnings, including an amber alert for up to 20 inches of snow accumulation in parts of Scotland.
Meteorologist Annie Shuttleworth from the Met Office mentioned, “Arctic maritime air is moving in from the north, bringing intense cold and frequent snow showers to northern regions.”
“Eastern areas may experience snow, particularly in northeastern England. By the weekend’s end, up to 50 cm of snow could accumulate in high-altitude regions, accompanied by strong winds that may cause blizzards and snow drifts.”
Drumnadrochit in the Scottish Highlands recorded the lowest temperature in the UK on Friday at -5.7°C. Similar frigid temperatures are predicted today, extending across the country.
Weather warnings focus on snow and ice, with windy conditions expected, notably along the North Sea coast in Tyne and Wear and County Durham, leading to potential travel disruptions, especially in Northeast England.
Temperatures will plummet further on Saturday night. Ms. Shuttleworth added, “Ice may form due to snow showers on Saturday, resulting in another very cold night with temperatures dropping to minus single figures, possibly reaching -8°C in areas with snow cover, especially in the north.”
